Our 35W Bridge collapse in Minnesota shakes the world!

By viki | August 5, 2007

I have been struggling with words and the power of the events that have taken place in our city of Minneapolis in Minnesota.

Many thanks to my friends, loved ones, and far reaching concerned friends, and clients of The Business Buddha, who called from as far away as Canada, England, and South Africa, not to mention from across our own country as well.
I am thanking God daily my family was not directly impacted by this incident, and my heart aches for those that were.

I can’t say this enough, how amazing it is to witness people coming together in such a time of sadness and help each other to get through the emotions and the emptiness of such an event.

Our community has rallied, and will continue to support one another as long as necessary. Long after the news crews are onto the next event, long after the River freezes over for a winter slumber, long after the twisted metal is taken away.

I take a few pokes at the Midwest from time to time, but I will never take away from the fact that these people here really care for one another and really do look out for each other.

As many of you know, I am still an instructor and active participant in the world of surgery. That night we dismissed our students in a rush of activity while teaching in a lab setting in the actual O.R. My students saw first hand something called an Orange Alert being played out as VERY real event.

An Orange Alert  is reserved for mass casualty events and was very much activated shortly after the news broke about the collapse on 35W ,in Minneapolis.

Hospitals go into lock down, emergency teams are called and must report to the hospital. An incident command instantly is set up, and in the blink of an eye you see medical personnel turn 180 degrees and suddenly you have a military operation underway.

I was proud to be part of an activated team, and as with many only later do you realize the full force of the events that just took place.

Hug your kids, say I love and I’m sorry, and thank you often!.  Be kind, take NOTHING for granted….and trust the bigger plan, even when it scares you…a lot!

Thanks for being part of my world by reading this.

God Bless

Viki

I’d like to leave you with a picture of what that bridge looked like, and how I wish to remember downtown Minneapolis.
